A road to God's Promised Land
Well, The Wilderness! - the moment we heard this word, does it haunt us? Is it actually a place of loneliness, as many would think of it, or a place of desolation or the place of loud cry, or a place of 0% happiness and 100% sorrow? or a place of total sickness?
The literal meaning of 'wilderness' is "an uncultivated, uninhabited, and inhospitable region; a neglected or abandoned area; a position of disfavor; a state of loneliness".
The Beauty of Creator is - He always loves to bring The Best out of every WORST.
And So, what actually our God is going to do with "Wilderness"?
We see in Bible, 300 times it's been mentioned in different ways
- Midbar (Hebrew) - Wandering in the wilderness
- Arabah (Hebrew) - Desert
- Eremos (Greek) - New testament wilderness where Jesus prayed 40 days.
I would like to quote a portion in the Bible, and then I proceed through it.
Isaiah 51:3
The Lord will surely comfort Zion
and will look with compassion on all her ruins;
he will make her deserts like Eden,
her wastelands like the garden of the Lord.
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and the sound of singing
Here is what God says how He is going to work through it:
1. He Comforts
The Lord will surely comfort Zion
- He gives confident to our heart that our plea is being heard by God, and we will be comforted in a most discomforting situation.
- Mathew 5:4
2. He is Compassionate
and will look with compassion on all her ruins;
- The word 'Compassion' means 'intense emotion' or 'deeply moved'.
- The word imagines us to imagine a mother's tender feelings for her vulnerable infant.
- God reveals His character to the Israelites in the wilderness, He begins by saying He is compassionate (Exodus 34:6)
- God's deep compassion became human as JESUS to teach us to be deeply moved by each other.
- During our time of wilderness, we experience that "He recognizes our suffering and runs towards us to rescue us", we should learn to be the same to others.
- And He lifts us up with His out-stretched arm, and embraces us with unconditional Love.
- Isaiah 30:18
3. He Transforms us
he will make her deserts like Eden,
her wastelands like the garden of the Lord
- Once He starts to prepare our minds and hearts, He disciplines us to the Godly values so our hard-characters are noted, analyzed and melted to be person of Integrity.
- Eden is a delightful place with great happiness and contentment. Our land which is of no value(wasteland) gets to gear up to be the Garden of Eden (high values).
- Hebrews 13:5-6
4. We will be Fruit-Bearers
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
- He changes us to be an useful vessel where we yield the fruits of "Joy and Gladness" and share it to others with Love.
- John 15:16
5. Being Gratitude
thanksgiving and the sound of singing
- "Formerly, Having been nothing, but now I am out for something Great"
- Thinking of His goodness, guidance and concerned towards us in our wilderness, we automatically lay our hands up to Thank Him and praise Him with shouts of Joy and singing.
- Colossians 1:12
In God's story, the most painful path always has a beautiful ending.
Though, He Himself let His people to wilderness, yet He covers us in spirit, He lifts us up and keep us in His (Spiritual) Womb to comfort us, to nurture us, to protect us, and He shows who He is when we are desolated.
And our job is to LET HIM WORK and being grateful for His work in us. Trust Him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
He always ready to embrace and acquire us with hands full of compassion and Love. Run to Him and hide under His wings for you will be saved.
Don't waste your time of "set apart"; Its to (re)build us and to make us the HONOR of nations.
Father God, I pray let your Spirit follow and teach us to accept the path of wilderness (instead of complaining and grumbling). You have so much in-store of the ones who really seek you with love and obedience. Help us to always focus you more and more through every trails and tribulations.
In Jesus Name,
Amen!
